All this time off has just been so nice. And productive. And even, in some instances, not productive at all. Which was perfect. Holidays like this always make me think about how wonderful not having a full time office job would be, where I can wake up when I want and do whatever. That eight hours is a pretty decent chunk of time, you know?
But having a steady paycheck is really nice, and of course stuff like benefits. Helpful. Necessary. And steady paychecks certainly do enable one to have expensive hobbies like art and traveling.
ANYWAYS. Like I said, it has been a productive couple of weeks. We had a great holiday here at the Harvest House, filled with people we love and plenty of Game of Thrones. That is, of course, what good holidays are made of: Love and Medieval Fantasy. The parkour gym has been closed since Christmas Eve, so we had a number of great build/paint/clean days there, and the gym looks great for the New Year and the Like Water event coming up in January. Oh shoot, hold on, I painted this sweet galaxy on one of the obstacles, lemme get a picture of it.
That was a fun experiment. I've never used spray paints like that before, and I have also never really painted from start to finish with a quasi audience before. Normally, as I go through working on a piece, the middle part consists of me having some sort of emotional crisis where I hate the piece and I"m convinced I am not good enough and never will be, and to quietly go through that with other people around was interesting. And intimidating. BUT HEY it came out great, and hopefully we can get more art on the gym walls soon.
Some of you may remember that I had some sweet New Years Resolutions on my last post. The first one was to DRAW MORE, and my friend Briana and I are doing a sweet 30 day drawing challenge to do just that. Every day we are given a different prompt to draw from. Here is what I have so far (again with the cell phone photos, I am so sorry).
Briana was also kind enough to lend me her Yiynova MSP19 tablet and guys this thing is f*cking badass. I've kind of shied away from digital stuff because every time I'd try out a little bamboo tablet I felt like a five year old trying to make crayons work again. But this thing. This Thing. Oh my gosh. It's brilliant. I can draw right onto what I am looking at instead of looking at a screen that is separate from the tablet. Some of my drawing challenges will likely involve learning how to use this tablet because holy crap this thing is so much fun. Briana is amazing - plus she teaches me about sweet techy things like, I dunno, monitor settings that I maaaayybbeeee was ignorant of previously. I'm bad at things like that. I'm defintely that person that just discovered Pinterest and is like "Oh my god you guys this thing is awesome!" while everyone rolls their eyes. But my spreadsheets are pretty awesome.
If you'd like to follow Briannas part of the drawing challenge (and you should because she is wicked cool) you can do so here on her tumblr.
Also guess who has two thumbs AND called her mother today??!! THIS LADY RIGHT HERE. Now she didn't actually pick up, but I left her a message and will try again later! Because goals!
Alright guys, I gotta do some errands, but check back in because i'll keep updating with progress pictures, studies, and whatever shenanigans I have going on.
Happy new year to everyone!!!
